History. Banquete was named for a four-day feast honoring the completion of a road linking San Patricio, Texas, with Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. The community was also a stop on the Texas Mexican Railway, and Was also the place of Camp Charles Russell, a military camp to train CSA soldiers.

The settlement was founded in 1920 by workers of the Uvalde Cedar Company for the purpose of exploiting the abundant cedar in the area. The site of the town and the immediate vicinity have, however, been inhabited for several millenia, as revealed by archeological evidence.

Originally the community was called Blue Goose, but the post office department approved the name Loop in 1912. The school also dates from 1912. Sources differ on whether the community's original post office was established in 1905, 1907, or 1912.

The town was laid off by the Texas and New Orleans Railroad when it reached the community in 1901 and was named after D. A. Poynor, a surveyor for the line. The post office was called Poyner from its opening in 1902 to 1919, when the name was corrected to Poynor.

Edge was founded in the 1870s by Dr. John Edge, and named for him. A post office called Edge was established in 1894 and remained in operation until 1957. It was established near the Old San Antonio Road.
