History. Ellery was created in 1880 and was named for the man who surveyed the railroad right of way and the town blocks. William Lines had donated many lots for the settlement and had been instrumental in securing the stock pens built there on the railroad.

Established in 1691 by the French explorer Henri de Tonti, Peoria is the oldest permanent European settlement in Illinois according to the Illinois State Archaeological Survey. Originally known as Fort Clark, it received its current name when the County of Peoria was organized in 1825.

Ogle County was formed in 1836 from a part of Jo Daviess County. The name, Ogle, was suggested by Thos. Ford in memory of Capt. Joseph Ogle who distinguished himself for his courage and coolness in the early days of the State's history.
